Promises in Session

This week, the I PROMISE Institute has been buzzing with activity as our high schoolers filed in for special I PROMISE sessions focused on their futures. Every day this week, our classes of 2023 through 2026 were invited to explore various areas of their higher education pursuits including I PROMISE Scholarship opportunities and the pathway to achieve them and their post-high school I PROMISE plans.

In our work, it’s about meeting our students where they are, and it’s never too soon to start planning for their next chapter. This valuable time was spent resetting expectations post-COVID with students and having conversations about identity through research-based assessment and meaningful activities. We also had a medley of guest speakers to share more about life choices, the cost of college, and the importance of community service.

The I PROMISE Institute team presented more about the opportunities and experiences available to them at our partner institutions, The University of Akron and Kent State University, as well as the value and criteria needed for the I PROMISE scholarships. Because nothing is given. Everything is earned. 

At the end of the day, our Akron I PROMISE Network students left the Institute with brand new hoodies to wear their promises with pride. 

We are so proud of how far our students have come, and we want to keep pushing them further towards their goals. Whether that’s college, career, or another passion, it’s important they have every support possible to get them where they want to go.
