May Motivation

It’s May and House Three Thirty is buzzing with a variety of daily programming, IPS athletics are soaring, Village families are thriving, and I Promise Housing is taking applications. One of the busiest months of the year is flying by and our I Promise students are rising to the occasion. 

Our first season of track and field at IPS has been an astounding success, with our students seemingly smashing records every race. Over the weekend, our boys and girls teams earned the title of 2023 ATC Track and Field Champions with record-setting momentum that carried over to this week’s Akron City Championships. In an unprecedented moment, our Miniya Mitchell broke an APS middle school record that stood for 17 years with a 58:42 400M dash and later set a new city record for the 200M with a 25.77. All of our IPS athletes put in the work and put on inspired performances to capture a sense of pride and community for the entire I Promise School.

That camaraderie carried over to the Hollywood Red Carpet Sneaker Ball for our 3^rd through 7^thgraders, who danced the day away inside House Three Thirty’s Hometown Hall.

In our second year of this event, the kids came together to celebrate their hard work and each other in a fun-filled day that turns into a fun-filled night for our oldest IPS students at the Hollywood Red Carpet 8^th grade Formal. With our students dressed to the nines, it’s a moment in time they’ll never forget. 

Our 6^th graders also added some pep to their step this week as they became the new kids on the Kent State campus for the day, beginning to experience what college life is like. This is part of our intentional effort to bring our younger students on campus earlier so they feel a sense of belonging when it comes to the college opportunity that is waiting for them.   

We work hard, we play hard, and we do it all together.
