Celebrating & Learning

In Akron, every day is a celebration of the many cultures that make us who we are. At the I Promise School, it’s a special place of celebration and learning as we honor Black History not only for the month of February, but year-round as we continue to serve our students and their entire families.

As part of the Black History Month experiences, our 3rd graders engaged in African storytelling and our 4th graders got to learn about and try some delicious soul food prepared with love by the IPS staff at the SoulFul Family Feast. Our 5th graders had a special Meditation Monday with purposeful yoga, the 6th graders participated in an electric Step Show with the Divine 9 and 7th grade got a tour on the evolution of hip hop.

At the I Promise School, it’s a special place of celebration and learning as we honor Black History not only for the month of February, but year-round as we continue to serve our students and their entire families.

Our 8th graders had the opportunity to attend an on-campus career fair that featured Black-owned business and had representation from various fields of interest including medical, real estate, the armed forces, Holmes Mouthwatering Applesauce Company, estheticians, and local universities.

There were 40 tables of new opportunities and new dreams for our students to chase, and important for them to see people of color achieving their dreams in each of those fields.

We are proud to have the opportunity to continue writing history in Akron and beyond with our next generation of leaders!
