Promises in Action
For many, Spring is a time for reflection, family, and renewed commitments. For the LeBron James Family Foundation, promises remain at the forefront for us 24/7, 365 days a year. And this season, we’ve been incredibly excited to see so many promises in action!
As our oldest I PROMISE students prepare for their higher education journeys, we want to make sure they have all the tools, resources, and information on the I PROMISE scholarships that are waiting for them at The University of Akron and Kent State University. To make sure we’re all staying connected, LJFF is hosting scholarship nights at the I PROMISE Institute on UA’s campus to share insights, requirements, important updates, and a family meal.
For the LeBron James Family Foundation, promises remain at the forefront for us 24/7, 365 days a year.
Our 12th and 11th grade promise keepers and their families joined us recently, and we look forward to welcoming our 8th and 9th grade students soon as it’s never too early to start preparing for your future. It’s amazing to see so many of our I PROMISE students sticking with it and pursuing their education while serving their community.
And it’s amazing to see our I PROMISE philosophies spreading across the country through the I PROMISE book. Every day we’re seeing more and more classrooms and communities incorporating this book and its universal message of love and perseverance into their daily learning. Places like Ascension of Our Lord school in Calgary, Alberta that recently shared more than 550 student promises inspired by our book. This is why we do this work and aim to share it with other communities so that the positivity can continue to spread.
Speaking of sharing our promises far and wide, we are so proud of our I PROMISE School’s News team that has been busy researching, producing, and broadcasting their impactful content to a national audience. Recently, IPS students Candace, Aliza and Vikiyah shared their stories of inspiration for a special Women’s History Month piece in partnership with PBS NewsHour’s Student Reporting Labs. To see their work on such an impactful platform made all of us kids from Akron proud!
We’ve also been seeing the I Promise News team weekly on WKYC’s “Three Questions” series that our students help script, film, and produce in the Kaulig Media Lab at the I PROMISE School. Every Friday on WKYC, we see our students interview local leaders and share with their community new things they’re learning, all while exploring the behind-the-scenes of television broadcasting with hands-on experience.
Seeing all these promises in action make us proud of our kids from Akron, and even more inspired to continue opening doors and finding new ways to support their big dreams.
