The finale week continued with an exciting STEM-centered afternoon with our 4th graders presenting the unique instruments they’d been designing in a project based learning exercise. Each group came together to create a presentation and a prototype for a type of musical instrument they would like to see on their playground. From jumbo-sized wind chimes to drums, xylophones, and even a see saw that plays music, the creativity was off the charts. A special thank you to our panel of judges that included two toy designers from our partners at Little Tikes, a teacher from the STEM School, IPS staff, Team LJFF, and Theron Brown from Curated Store Front – all who poured their time, love and energy into our student engineers.
The I Promise School students also celebrated the end of the year by breaking in the new dance floor in the Smucker Hometown Hall at House Three Thirty. Feeling like a celebrity gala fit for our kids from Akron, the “Sneaker Ball” school dance featured all their favorites including pizza and snacks, a live DJ, and photobooth. It was another memorable day spent together as a family.
Also at House Three Thirty, the 6th and 7th grade music classes performed a beautiful set they had been preparing as a choir and orchestra for the IPS Spring musical. With their parents and I Promise School staff in attendance, they wowed the crowd with their musicality, preparation, and sheer talent. The concert closed with a special performance by Theron Brown and his quartet.
As the school year comes to a close, we’re also looking forward to great things ahead. Following a national search, IPS staff and student parents are meeting the final IPS principal candidates that will soon lead the school onward and upward at this critical juncture. Next year, our school will be at full capacity with over 700 students in 3rd through 8th grades.
The end of a school year always feels a little bittersweet as we were getting back into the swing of things, but we look forward to a promising and productive summer with our students and their families!
