We Are FAMUly

With the holidays approaching, special guests continue to make spending time with our I PROMISE School students a priority. In town to take on The University of Akron, the Florida A&M Men’s basketball team’s trip to Northeast Ohio was not complete until they stopped at the I PROMISE school for a tour and some one-on-one time with our scholars.

Led by two of our IPS student ambassadors, Jordyn and Aliece, the FAMU team and staff visited Mrs. Vik in the Family Resource Center to learn more about the Foundation’s comprehensive resources for our families before splitting into groups for special time with our students.

Having the opportunity to have one-on-one time with the basketball players – reading stories and asking them about life – was really impactful for our 5^th graders.

One group went to Mrs. Arnette’s 5^th grade classroom for a Q&A, where our students had spent time diligently preparing their questions ahead of time. The result was an incredible conversation about persevering through challenges, how they got to where they are today, and their big dreams after college.

The other group headed downstairs to the IPS Think Tank to read books alongside students. Having the opportunity to have one-on-one time with the basketball players – reading stories and asking them about life – was really impactful for our 5^th graders.

For the FAMU basketball team to take time out of their road trip to visit and inspire our IPS students is truly an incredible thing. We love that our family and the I PROMISE Movement continues to reach so many communities.
