Empowering Equity in Education
For the LeBron James Family Foundation and its work with students and families in Akron, education means so much more than academics. It’s family. It’s about overcoming obstacles and prioritizing our students’ and families’ well-being. It’s empowerment for all so everyone can be successful.
With that mission at the forefront of everything we do, LJFF has teamed up with Box Tops for Education and Walmart for a partnership advancing racial equity in education by highlighting the many ways diverse educators and school support staff can improve students’ outcomes.

equity in education.
The content series, called “The Best Year Starts Here,” features four different teachers and school support staff members of color from across the country, showing their impact in the classroom through the eyes of their students and mentors. LeBron and his mom, Ms. Gloria James, help bring these stories to life, with every episode culminating in a surprise as each educator receives a check to help alleviate their student loans.
The series kicks off in our hometown of Akron where one of the I PROMISE School’s support staff, Ayesha, sees her work with I PROMISE families in the Family Resource Center recognized in the premiere episode. Ayesha has dedicated her life to supporting families through their toughest times, offering her expertise and care throughout their legal challenges. Her love and smile have touched so many lives, and we are so excited to see her selfless work celebrated in this national campaign.
