LJFF I Promise Village Families

Empowering Each Other
Posted on 11/18/2020
When the I PROMISE Village opened its doors to its first families just a few short months ago, it was always more than temporary housing. It would be a home for the I PROMISE families that needed it most. Even more than that, it would be a community focused on family that would allow all of its members to thrive.
As Village parents, our families often watch each other’s kids. They look out for one another. They hold each other accountable.
They look out for one another. They hold each other accountable.
This weekend showed just how far our families in the Village have come in their individual journeys and their collective bonds. One of the Villages’ tenants, a single mom of two, pulled together the Village’s first ever Women’s Empowerment Brunch to celebrate all of the moms and women persevering through unimaginable hardships and making countless sacrifices for the betterment of their families. The brunch featured speakers from the Akron community, including Principal Davis from the I PROMISE School, all striving to make their homes and their community better by uplifting and encouraging others.
The brunch was an inspiration for all of the Village moms – many of them with dreams bigger than the Village’s historic, arched ceilings. It was a morning of hope and a message of empowerment.
For all of our I PROMISE families and partners – we believe in you. And we know there is no ceiling you can’t break through if you believe in yourself.
