Year Won

Year Won!

As the bus pulled away from the I PROMISE School for the last time of the school’s very first year, some of the students’ eyes filled with tears. It was a monumental, life-changing year for not only the students but also for the staff and all of the I PROMISE families. From the unforgettable opening day to the last day of school, each day was an adventure full of excitement, learning and growth.

No two days were the same, but they all started in a familiar way with hugs and high fives from a caring and committed staff. With VIP guests going out of their way to make a stop at IPS to leaders and educators from across the country coming to learn more, it was a place of progress, opportunities and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Nearly 200 families utilized the game-changing resources in the Family Resource Center, extending the benefits far beyond the classroom.

The I PROMISE School and its first year were a success because of them and their belief in their students, and LeBron wanted to make sure they knew that.

And the students’ rising attendance and test scores, with 90% of them meeting or exceeding their expected growth in math and reading, are a testament to the impact of it all.

The LeBron James Family Foundation celebrated IPS’s incredible staff at an end-of-the-year event themed “I Believe.” As the faculty and their families shared a meal, they relived the moments of year one and the memories they’ll have with them for a lifetime. The I PROMISE School and its first year were a success because of them and their belief in their students, and LeBron wanted to make sure they knew that.

The teachers’ constant desire to be best is continuing on campus with week-long professional development underway. Learning some techniques and practices they can apply to their classrooms from some of the top experts in the country, they will be eagerly awaiting their students’ return for year two.

And fortunately for the students who left IPS in tears, they won’t be away from school long. Their four weeks of summer programming will begin in June with LJFF hosting specialized camps to continue their learning and growth over the critical summer months.

We are so proud of our students, the entire staff and all of the families at the I PROMISE School. They’ve made year one a year WON for so many reasons. We can’t wait to continue this journey with all of them and our new additions in year two!
