Board Takes Step on I PROMISE Gym
From last night's board meeting

APS is moving forward with plans for the new gym at I PROMISE School.  The Akron School Board approved giving the superintendent the authority to move plans for the project through the chain of approvals needed from the city of Akron.  The action was taken at last night's first board meeting in the administration's new offices at 10 North Main Street.

Superintendent David James reassured the board that any major ingredientssuch as design plans, will come back before the board.

As with the school itself, the building will be owned by the Akron Public Schools, but the LeBron James Family Foundation will have a considerable say in the work that is done on the project and has expressed a desire to even add an outdoor basketball court at some point.

The project, funded with a $1M from Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation is not expected to involve public dollars.

Superintendent James said there is no timeline yet for the completion of the gym and was careful to remind the public, "Please remember, my experience in building projects tells me that just because we have some rendering of what the gym might look like, the design could easily change as we move through this process."
